Thanks! The one which confused me a bit was the it’s/its. Does the same rule apply to the apostrophe if used after a name (for example, is it “John’s car” or “Johns car”? I have always used the apostrophe in there, however this seems to contradict the pattern used it it’s/its.

Hi Joel,

You are very correct – John’s car is the correct form. “Johns” is simply the pleural of “John”. This is completely different from “it’s/its”.

John’s car – Possessive noun { With apostrophe }
Its – Possessive pronoun { Always without apostrophe }

Being conversational with proper grammar is a must to avoid being termed as a bad blogger. Well, it is only fair to learn the basics in English since this is how people would see you as an excellent blogger or an article writer. Great tips friend.
