Correlation Between Number of Unique Visitors Per Day and Ad Revenue

Unique visitors and Ad revenueHi everybody!

Recently I got an Email from one of my avid reader asking for the “relation between the unique visitors and Ad revenue.”

As, it’s an interesting question for all newbie bloggers, I thought I should share this with my all readers.

Here goes the actual Email:

Dear Nandita,

I am a fan of your blog and a daily visitor. I am a newbie and am want to start blogging very soon.

I wanted to know only one thing before I start with my blog. What is the correlation between the number of unique visitors per day and Ad revenue?

This question is haunting me past quite a time. As I am willing to work hard and spend atleast 4-6 hrs per day on my blog, I want to set realistic target for my earnings also. The answer to this question is critical as I am looking to fund my further education from the earnings of my blog.

Your reply to this will be very helpful for me to take a decision.

With best regards, Sachin Agrawal.

My return mail:

Hi Sachin,

First of all “Wish you all the best for your upcoming blog.”

Unique visitors usually calculated for a specific time period like per day, per month etc. They are like first time visitors to your blog for that particular day or month.

Google analytics uses a first party cookie called UTMA to track the unique visitors. In fact it uses 4 types of first party cookies.

For Google AdSense: There are 2 types of options – CPC (Cost Per Click) and CPM (Cost-per-thousand Impressions). So, Google decides your Ad revenue on the basis of Number of clicks + Number of impressions (in 1000s).

In layman language, there is no relation between Unique visitors and Google Ad revenue, as it counts only clicks and impressions (both unique and repeat visitors). But, actually there is a trade secret of Google for counting Ad revenue related to unique visitors. Which Google never discloses.

Example: Suppose a person visits your blog on a particular day for the first time (no matter whether he has visited your site earlier or not, I mean irrespective of unique or absolute unique visitor). And, he clicks an AdSense Ad for which you paid by Google. If he again visits your blog after sometime on the same day, and clicks an Ad (Same as previous Ad Size), you will be paid less by Google (now he is not an Unique Visitor). How Google calculate the Ad revenue for this type of visitors is its trade secret.

So, when an unique visitor clicks an AdSense Ads, you get more Ad revenue. For CPM, there is no relation at all between Unique Visitors and Ad revenue.

Now, let’s talk about a different type of Ad Network – Say BuySellAds.com : Here monthly visits (monthly unique visits) and monthly impressions counts. Advertisers buy Ads on you blog by looking these parameters.

That means, the more the number of unique visitors you generate on your blog, the more will be your page views. And, the more Ad revenue you will be able to generate.

Hope I have clarified your doubt thoroughly.

Once again, all the best for your blog and the new venture.

Thanks.

my website has 2000 Average visits, and sometimes more and Major traffic is From India, though my Google Adsense daily earning is 5-8$
But have a Other blog which has 1000- 1500 Visits daily But i earn More on this.. as the Traffic is from US and western countries..

  4. there is a relation actually, Google’s algorithm of inspecting illegal clicks or invalid activity consider one click after every 350 page impression , if more then this then site is instantly submitted for inspection. I will write a detailed article on this on my blog.
