Facebook Launches Freemium App Center

Facebook Application Center LaunchedFacebook announced that it is launching its own application center just like Apple and Google.

Facebook application center will offer both Free and Premium apps to their users. Now users can search and download different apps from their Facebook dashboard.

The apps page on Facebook will closely resemble to Apple’s App Store and Google Play, with details of different apps.

Now apps developers can charge a flat rate to their users on Facebook for premium apps. As, most of the Facebook apps are either iOS or Android, with Facebook integration, users will be redirected to respective stores like App Store and Google Play to download them.

Facebook will charge apps developers a flat 30% transaction fee between them and users. Facebook also introduced a rating facility for the apps user, so they can rate an app according to user experience, popularity, ease of use etc. And, the highly rated apps will be featured on the front page of Facebook Apps Center for promotion, a great incentive for apps developers which is not there in App Store or Google Play.

An excerpt from Facebook’s post:

Paid Apps: Many developers have been successful with in-app purchases, but to support more types of apps on Facebook.com, we will give developers the option to offer paid apps. This is a simple-to-implement payment feature that lets people pay a flat fee to use an app on Facebook.com. If you are interested in the beta program, please sign up to receive more information.

  1. Like Google, Apple and Amazon, Facebook is rapidly becoming a platform, not a product.

I cannot wait to see how their recent team-up with Microsoft on Bing’s Social Search goes.

  2. Facebook are not the first. Other market already exist both on Android and iPhone
