Increase Organic Traffic To Your Blog – 3 Surefire Strategies

Increase Organic TrafficWould you like to increase organic traffic to your blog?

Don’t be moved by the rumors out there. It’s true that the Penguin and Panda are extremely clever and can pinpoint ugly optimization tactics.

But you don’t have to use black-hat or grey-hat SEO concepts. Or do you?

Oftentimes, we’re the ones limiting our blogs and websites from gaining traction.

You can increase search engine traffic by optimizing your blog properly. The organic traffic from Google is too precious to be ignored.

It’s better than Twitter, Facebook, Digg and Pinterest traffic. Well, I think LinkedIn traffic is much more targeted than any other social media traffic.

I like web-surfers to locate my blog naturally. This type of traffic is targeted and ready to buy whatever you’re selling – helpful and insightful products actually.

Also, it’s a proven fact that, your AdSense units get more number of clicks when traffic comes from organic sources or search engines. So, if you’ve been whining over Penguin, I’ve good news for you. Stop crying and do what’s right.

I’m going to show you 3 surefire strategies to increase organic traffic quickly. I mean, you would start to see results within 30 days. Yes, I’m so sure of this, but you’ve to work hard to make it work – there is no magic bullet anywhere. Are you ready?

1. Define SEO in your own way

SEO means search engine optimization. But is that all you need to know? Of course not! If you want to see your blog ranking higher on Google search result pages, getting to know what “optimization” stand for is the secret spice. Let me give you a boost…

SEO is simply the process of targeting the right keywords which your target audience is using to locate helpful and valuable information online. You’re not necessarily optimizing for Google spiders, but for real humans. Optimizing for people is the right way to increase organic traffic to your blog.

After all, spiders don’t have credit cards to make purchases, but your neighbor probably has two credit cards. Common sense tells me that optimizing for search spider only is the surest path to failure.

You need a shift in your thoughts when conducting keyword research. You require a deep knowledge about your target audience to win the SEO game – thousands of webmasters and bloggers are playing, but few people always win.

The people who succeeded have moved from keyword stuffing to keyword targeting. It’s no longer the keyword you’re targeting that matters, but how you place it. Read next line to get the full gist.

2. Keyword placement is the best SEO secret

Now what you think – I’m not talking about keyword density here. We all know it doesn’t work in today’s ranking game. Keyword placement deals extensively with copywriting. How you align words so that blog readers, prospects and clients can derive joy in it.

Do you know the secrets of copywriting? It’s all about using words to persuade people to take action. Copywriters would start with the strongest hook (benefit) and cement the thoughts into the buyer’s mind. When writing your headline, the keyword should come first, before any qualifier or verb. This is very important and can positively increase your ranking.

For instance, if your target keyword is “increase organic traffic,” in order to please spider and pique interest, your headline should be in this form:

Increase organic traffic – 7 SEO strategy for your blog

Increase organic traffic: 5 Strategies That Truly Works

If you begin with “7 SEO strategy for,” the purpose of keyword placement is defeated. And most importantly, spiders read contents like humans. They start from left and gradually move toward the right. The earlier the spider defines what your article conveys, the greater your chances of ranking on Google’s first page.

For the body section of the article – You have to strategically and extremely carefully sprinkle the keywords like a poor farmer to reap the benefits from search engines.

3. Streamline Your Link Building Tactics

Links are the currency of the web” – Brian Clark

You need 2 types of links to build Google-friendly web pages. The first one is internal links, which interlink your most important pages and posts to help your blog readers by citing, recommending and anchor-linking internal pages and archive posts.

Before you go out to acquire more external links, spend time optimizing your internal posts. Use your primary key term as an anchor and link to previous posts.

The second types of links you need to your pages are inbound links (backlinks or external links). Many a times, you can garner 10, 20, or even 50 links from authority sites without lifting a finger, in a natural way, simply by writing a great blog post. And guess what?

This is the strategy that Google wants. The reason for the Panda and Penguin updates are to make the web a much better place to interact, engage, enjoy and find refuge in times of need. Since 85% of web users search for terms on Google, initiating these people into a tribe is very important.

All you need to do is spend quality time crafting exceptional blog posts. Write well-researched case studies, tutorial-based posts that are extremely helpful, evergreen and thought-provoking. People would gladly share, bookmark, link to it and promote it offline via word of mouth.

Of course, you can use guest posting to build links, but there is a limit to what you can do. Again, you have to be extra careful while writing as well as accepting guest posts. As such, Google give less importance to acquired backlinks by writing guest articles on other blogs and sites.

Moreover, Google doesn’t like the links acquired by writing guest posts on low quality or spammy sites. At the same time, it also doesn’t like accepting guest posts from spammy sites for the sake of backlinks (link-juice).

Even at that, it’s still not enough to make you successful in search. But when other people get hooked to your content, you’ll grow beyond your wildest thoughts. Don’t you think so?

Organic Traffic Hack

The most important thing about organic traffic is conversion. No matter the amount of web traffic you attract to your website/blog, if no one subscribes and comments or buy your products and services, you’ve wasted your time. Take it or leave it!

For better conversion, you have to make a great E-mail list and a greater compelling landing page (squeeze page or Call-to-action page). E-mail marketing and Landing page optimization are never ending topics , I have no problem writing, but I think you are getting bored. May be next time!

In the mean time, take action on the above 3 tips and meet me at the top. Your success is sure!

  2. Michael, really loved reading the post. I am greatly impressed by your writing style.
Especially, the sentence, “Spiders don’t have credit cards to make purchases, but your neighbor probably has two credit cards. Common sense tells me that optimizing for search spider only is the surest path to failure.”
    Funny but so true.

Nandita, thanks for sharing such a great post.

  3. Great writing.I like your post. These strategies are great.

  4. Thank you Michael. That was very enlightening, would love to read more such posts from you.

  5. Thanks Nandita it was really a great article…Michael simply Rocks :)

  6. Hey Micheal,

Do you advise using the ‘:’ instead of the ‘-’ symbol in the title, because when I used the : symbol, the text after that symbol wasn’t being displayed by Google.

    • Hi Aditya,

I am addressing your question on behalf of Michael, b’cos he is a shy guy when it comes to SEO!

1# From readability point of view you should use ‘-’ instead of ‘:’ while writing a post title. For readers with extremely shorter attention span, it serves like a much needed break.

That is the only reason I have extensively used hyphen for most of my article headings.

2# There is no issue with Google displaying texts after ‘:’ symbol in article heading.
Lot of bloggers use this. Checkout an example below -

Attract more traffic with better title

      Thanks.

      • Hey Nandita, I’m a bold guy – shy? I don’t think so.
You’ve actually answered the question correctly. Both “-” and “:” are used in writing to show the relationship between two variables.

As you rightly said, I prefer using the “-” in my headlines and while writing my articles.

But there is nothing wrong when you use the colon (:).
Thank you Nandita for throwing more lights on my post. I’m forever grateful. But I’m no shy guy. Lol!

  7. Well that was interesting Michael! Although I do know that getting organic traffic from Google is important, I definitely wouldn’t concentrate just on those efforts. With the way they keep changing things, you never know when you’ll get slapped for doing things right.

Referral traffic is to me the best source of traffic because we all know that people are more interested in buying from people who have been referred by friends. Let’s just say it’s my preferred source.

Thanks though for this interesting post. I’ll definitely keep this in mind for when I do write for SEO. Hey, I never said it wasn’t smart! ;-)

    • Hi Abuzar,
There is a lot of facts which directly or indirectly affects the ‘indexing’ , whether its by Google or any other search engine.
      Here are some (my experience),
Blog Content: Google is not interested in copied content.
Urls: Urls of your blog posts – should not be broken.
Sitemap: Maintain a sitemap of your site(eg: .xml) and submit it to Google through Webmaster tools.
      Backlinks: Both internal and external.

      Update your blog regularly.

Dont use porn or illegal contents- Google is very strict.

Like these there are many points that should be take care when you want your site to be indexed by google.
      All the best.
